Gonzaga puts their nation-leading 18 game winning streak on the line in Salt Lake City against a tough, defense-minded Xavier team that went 8-8 in A-10 play but ran off four straight in their conference tournament to capture the A-10's auto bid.

THE XAVIER MUSKETEERS

Head Coach: Sean Miller

Record: 21-10 overall; 8-8 in the Atlantic 10 2005/06 Summary: Xavier went into the A-10 tourney knowing they had to win it to get into the NCAA tourney field. The fact that they won it was quite an accomplishment considering that they went 3-5 in their last 8 games going into it, and because the Musketeers lost two starters late in the season in big man Brian Thornton and point guard Dedrick Finn. Despite the loss of two starters, Xavier still has 3 double digit scorers. They also feature 4 starters who shoot the three ball 36% or better, including both of their starting bigs. As is normally the case with Xavier, they play tough perimeter defense – they are holding opponents to under 40% from the field.
