Hoosiers next for Zags

Gonzaga needed clutch baskets and free-throws late in the game to catch and overtake Xavier, 79-75, while Indiana capitalized on late-game San Diego State miscues for a Robert Vaden trey and "W" with 3 seconds left. We take a brief look at the Indiana Hoosiers.

THE INDIANA HOOSIERS

Head Coach: Mike Davis

This Season: 19-11; 9-7 in Big 10

2005/06 Summary: Indiana has had an up and down year, but came into the NCAA tournament on a major upswing. Two things have greatly influenced Indiana’s erratic play this season: the loss of promising young big man D.J. White due to injury, and the continual speculation regarding Mike Davis’ job status. While the Hoosiers still miss White, Davis’ announced resignation, effective at end of this season, has eradicated a big team distraction. The Hoosiers came into the tournament winning 5 out of their last 6, with the one loss being a heartbreaking one at the hands of Ohio State in the Big 10 tournament semifinals. Indiana is a very skilled offensive team with lots of excellent perimeter shooters and one of the best big men in the nation in Marco Killingsworth. They execute effectively in the halfcourt, and are always patient in trying to find the best shot possible. Marshall Strickland and Robert Vaden can really stroke it from 3 ball land. A.J. Ratliff and Earl Calloway are creative off the bounce. Killingsworth is a powerful low block scorer who is tremendous at getting to the rim.
